He grew to genuinely like Yomiel, though. Respected his intelligence and even his ridiculous self-destructive ballsiness (to a certain degree). And maybe Simon liking a person doesn't account for a whole lot, since I mean his master plan was still "use this guy til he gets killed, then use Horace til he gets killed," but it's still a pretty rare thing.
After he died, Simon was mad at Yomiel for whatever petty reasons he could find, mostly just because he was jealous that Yomiel was the one who survived. And also weirdly jealous of Yomiel's friendship with Knightley, though not quite sure which one he was jealous of.
In DART he's mostly just glad Yomiel requires relatively little babysitting.
