TRIAL 03

Attention, Citizens! You have ten minutes to proceed to the Loyalty Chamber. Anyone who is late to the Loyalty Chamber, or who brings any weapons into the Loyalty Chamber, will be immediately executed.

[Once you arrive, you will find a large chamber, with twenty podiums spaced around the room in a circle. On the ceiling, a massive screen showing the digital eye of The Computer, turning to look at whoever is talking.]

You have one hour to come to a consensus about who to eliminate. Ties will be broken randomly.

[The floor of the chamber begins to split apart, eventually only leaving the twenty podiums as safe places to stand, above a seemingly bottomless abyss. Each podium lights up with a touch screen showing twenty user IDs (the dead are grayed out), plus the word “ABSTAIN”. However, ABSTAIN has now been grayed out as well. The trial begins now!]

[[Vote here.]]

But on the other hand, we don't have any other ideas as to who the other three Communists would be.

Who would you vote for other than Sakura?

They must be hiding it really well, man! We need to look extra hard before anyone else gets murdered!

...Well, I guess I'd vote for Rin! Since she's supposed to come back to life, right? She could still be a communist!

Well we can't vote for her now, since she's still dead. You'd have to pick someone else.

And there are a couple people that are probably hiding a lot, simply by saying hardly anything.

Oh yeah, they're a ton of people not talking a lot!

[Robin has to think on Phi's question for a moment. She honestly didn't want to vote for anyone, so it was a rather tough decision all around.]

Well... I dunno. Maybe that Paul guy? He lied to Yomiel, man!

No good there. He's an asshole, sure, but he didn't know Anthy was a Communist so he has to be an ally.

He could totally be lying, man! It could all be some kind of weird trick to throw suspicion off of himself!

[No matter how horrible it was to admit.]

Let's suppose that's true, then. Why choose to sacrifice Anthy for that kind of play? I don't think anyone thought she'd been an enemy until today.

Because he knew she was the indoctrinator! And since she already indoctrinated Rin, he didn't need her anymore! So he threw her under the bus, man!

He does seem like the kind of person that would sacrifice others for his own sake. However, Rin's conversion drew a lot of suspicion towards Sakura. If Sakura is an ordinary Communist, then it would have made more sense to sacrifice her since most of us are planning to vote for her right now. If she's an ally, the Inhibitor, or the Scanner, then it might not, since having Yomiel use his ability on an ally would immediately draw immense suspicion towards Paul, and the Inhibitor and Scanner are still useful.

But what if that's all part of their plan?! He thinks they're gonna lose since we already suspect Sakura, so he had to choose another person to take the fall so he can try and get away, and Anthy was his best bet!

If he really had been posing as the Loyalty Officer, why would he lie about having investigated Anthy altogether, and then admit to it?

Maybe he was hoping it'd give him an alibi!

[Robin was a law student. She thought about stuff like this.]

Like, it would make him look like he just wanted to investigate himself and took a hunch! He's a jerk, so people wouldn't suspect anything!
