Attention, Citizens! You have ten minutes to proceed to the Loyalty Chamber. Anyone who is late to the Loyalty Chamber, or who brings any weapons into the Loyalty Chamber, will be immediately executed.

[Once you arrive, you will find a large chamber, with twenty podiums spaced around the room in a circle. On the ceiling, a massive screen showing the digital eye of The Computer, turning to look at whoever is talking.]

You have one hour to come to a consensus about who to eliminate. Ties will be broken randomly.

[The floor of the chamber begins to split apart, eventually only leaving the twenty podiums as safe places to stand, above a seemingly bottomless abyss. Each podium lights up with a touch screen showing twenty user IDs (the dead are grayed out), plus the word “ABSTAIN”. However, ABSTAIN has now been grayed out as well. The trial begins now!]

So, let's start with the basics. The one who died was Greed-san, who was apparently the partner. From the events that occurred earlier today, it seems rather obvious that the true target of the Communists was actually Puppington-san. Things we found in common with the two cases were the word "Johnny" found at both of their corpses.

There was also a message that said "PHI COM" at the mess hall, in an attempt to indicate Phi-san as a Communist.

In regards two these two events, I have several questions to ask. One: any ideas as to why Puppington-san was targeted? And two: is the message at the mess hall a red herring? If it is a red herring, then a third question arises: who has a reason to target Phi-san?

I think it's kind of funny that the message showed up in the exact way Yomiel suggested the last time we failed to kill any communists.

It's possible that the Computer has a strange sense of humor and decided to go with what someone said publicly.

It's also possible we have a really uncreative Loyalty Officer.

Kind of hard to say either way, isn't it?

I think the Scanner chose Mr. Puppington during the first night. The result was positive, so they chose to target him the following night. The Loyalty Officer, the Defense Officer and the Troubleshooter are the biggest threats to the Communists, so obviously they want to get rid of the people with special roles as quickly as possible.

That seems rather plausible. And since they didn't know what their role was, they decided to just simply kill him off. But it doesn't seem to have gone as planned.

...Whoever wrote that message should speak up now. If they're a Citizen with a real reason to suspect Phi, I want to hear it. If they're not, then we can safely ignore it.

After all, it wasn't written by the Loyalty Officer.

It's pretty simple. Whoever wrote that, did they really think the real Loyalty Officer would stand for being impersonated? Of course not. But we can't expect them to reveal themselves just for somebody they haven't investigated yet. She really could be a Communist, for all we know. But they didn't write that message. That's why I want to know who did.

So you're fine with just ignoring a message without figuring out the real meaning behind it, even if it wasn't written by a Citizen?

What makes you say that? Besides, I doubt the person responsible for the message will speak up.

You know the Loyalty Officer? Are you sure?

Did they mention anything we can use for the trial?

Are we sure Puppington was Greed's partner? Yomiel seemed to think so, but he obviously wasn't thinking straight at the time. We should confirm that detail before we base all our reasoning on it.

... No, it wouldn't make any sense for him to go on a rampage like that if he didn't know. He seemed rather close to Greed-san, after all. Besides, if we want to confirm it, we can just ask Puppington-san himself. There's no point in hiding your identity as a partner now, considering that the Communists would already know who he or she is.

If that message is a fake, it wouldn't matter if anyone had a specific reason to target Phi Com. It doesn't matter who the Communists scapegoat.

But if it is real, it's probably someone with a stupid sense of humor using shades' guy suggestion, and likely someone with a role. So they could be pointing a Communist out to us, but how the heck are we supposed to know? They need to leave a better sign.

... What are you talking about? Of course it matters who the Communists scapegoat. It's totally possible that they're attempting to take out more than one person with a role like that.

But it's not as if we can tell whether or not the message is real or not to begin with unless they left any clues on accident.

That message is a red herring. I'm a Citizen, just like Seryu and Moge-ko.

But that's what you'd expect me to say whether or not I'm a Communist, isn't it?

Unless there's a way for you to prove it, then I'm sorry, your words alone won't do it. But for the time being, I'll ignore the message until we get actual proof either way.

I know that you voted for Mr. Kimbley on the first trial day...

Do you know anyone else who might have a reason to write a message against you? Did you have private conversations with anyone before it appeared?

What if he was targeted just to be random? Then the communists would be trying to trick us and make us all confused, maaan!

If it's random, then there's no point in figuring out why Puppington-san was killed.
